Welcome to Polk Elementary School

 

 

Polk Elementary School, built in 1960, is located in the heart of the historic "Old South Baton Rouge" neighborhood, physically located at 408 East Polk St., in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. There are approximately 215 students currently enrolled in grades PK-5. Our faculty consist of 12 Classroom Teachers, 2 Special Education Teachers, 2 Speech Therapists, Librarian, Math Coach, Reading Coach, Art Instructor, Physical Education Instructor, 3 Reading Interventionists, Nurse, Timeout Room Moderator, Cafeteria Staff, Custodian, and 3 Paraeducators. Polk’s Administrative staff includes the Principal, Executive Secretary, Administrative Clerk, Instructional Specialist.

Program: Developmentally Delayed, & PreK - 5th Grades

At Polk Elementary, you can count on a superior, quality education that will develop and enhance the academic, social, emotional, and physical characteristics of each student.

School Ends: 3:25pm

Extended Day: Yes, 2nd & 3rd Grades -TANF ASFA

The Administration, Faculty, Staff, and Student Body of Polk Elementary, would like to thank the parent who were in attendance at this year's "Meet my Dad" & "Muffins with Mom" parental workshops. Your presence and participation at these events was much appreciated. Your willingness to support your child and your dedication to your child did not go unnoticed. Continue to support the school and remember that you are the most important  component in your child's education. STUDENT+SCHOOL+PARENTAL SUPPORT=SUCCESS!!

We also would like to send a special thanks to Superintendent John Dilworth, who was our guest speaker at "Meet my Dad", he encouraged our fathers to take time from their busy lives to enjoy their children now. He challenged them get more involved and try not to miss out on the golden years in their child's life. Thank you Superintendent Dilworth for supporting Polk Elementary.

Special Thanks go out to Raising Cane's for providing our delicious refreshments for "Meet my Dad". Thanks to Mr. Jimmie Brown, Parental Involvement Coordinator, for his outstanding dedication, and hard work. Also, thanks to Mrs. Susan Thornton, I Care, and Ms. Janice Fields, with your help our parents and guest definately felt welcomed.

The school improvement plan assesses the school's strengths and weaknesses,implements strategies and activities to address the school's needs, and continually evaluates the school's progress toward achieving its objectives and meeting its goals. The plan focuses on improving student achievement at the school by addressing state goals and performance standards.
