 Welcome to Polk Elementary School

 

Polk Elementary School, built in 1960, is located in the heart of the historic "Old South Baton Rouge" neighborhood, physically located at 408 East Polk St., in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. There are approximately 210 students currently enrolled in grades Gifted PK-2nd, and PK-5th grades. Our faculty consist of 14 Classroom Teachers, 2 Special Education Teachers, Speech Therapist, Librarian, Numeracy Coach, Literacy Coach, Art Instructor, Physical Education Instructor, 2 Reading Interventionists, Nurse, Timeout Room Moderator, Cafeteria Staff, Custodian, and 4 Paraeducators. Polk’s Administrative staff includes the Principal, Executive Secretary, Guidance Counselor, Administrative Clerk, and Instructional Specialist.


Principal: Cherryl C. Matthews

Programs: Primary Self-Contained, Special Options Academy, Pre-K Gifted, Kindergarten Gifted, 1st and 2nd Grade Gifted & Pre-K Traditional - 5th Grades. During the 2011 School Year our Gifted & Talented Program will be extended through 2nd Grade. Application will be handled by the Office of Specialized and Innovative Programs.

School Improvement
The school improvement plan assesses the school's strengths and weaknesses,implements strategies and activities to address the school's needs, and continually evaluates the school's progress toward achieving its objectives and meeting its goals. The plan focuses on improving student achievement at the school by addressing state goals and performance standards.
